In addition to its volunteer corps, CPA!’s leadership includes accomplished professionals in the fields of nonprofit management, marketing, government, law, fundraising, animal behavior and veterinary medicine. We have been implementing small scale projects to help Clermont pets, pet owners, and shelters since 2006.
Anita Barron – Executive Director
Anita grew up in Southwest Georgia, where virtually every dog, and most cats, spent their days (and nights) outside making more dogs and cats. Her mother and grandparents instilled in her a love for animals that has never waned. She watched closely as they demonstrated true guardianship for all animals.
Her childhood love for animals turned into a passion. Anita began spending virtually all of her spare time supporting animals and those who rescue them. She sees first hand how overwhelmed people and organizations get and views political intervention as the next step in creating a safe environment for pets.
Anita is the founder of Pet Alliance, the parent 501(c)(3) organization for Clermont Pets Alive! and led the creation of the following programs:
- Spay Ohio – low cost spay/neuter referral service for the residents of Ohio.
- MicroChip USA – $20 microchips to bring your lost pet home.
- Great Shelters – empowering communities to save more shelter animals.
- Great Shelters Conference – bringing no-kill leaders directly to you!
Bonnie Brown – Volunteer Coordinator and Dog Committee Co-Chair
Bonnie coordinates the activities of the hundreds of volunteers registered to support CPA while serving as a core dog committee volunteer and working full-time.
Bonnie comes to CPA from the League for Animal Welfare, serving as their General Volunteer Orientation Presenter, Dog Volunteer Orientation Trainer and Annual Picnic Chairperson in 2011 and 2012.
She can be seen most weekends at a dog adoption event and fosters both dogs and cats for CPA.
Dana White – Bottle Baby Program
Dana oversees care for the most fragile animals in CPA’s adoption program – orphaned babies while serving as a core volunteer for both the dog and cat committees.
Dana has been doing cat rescue for over 20 years with experience bottle feeding, drawing blood and administering vaccinations and sub-Q fluids.
Lori Wilson – Event Coordinator
Lori plans and executes the fundraising and outreach events for CPA. Her efforts supported the successful completion of events nearly every weekend during the summer months, raising community awareness, locating foster and adoption homes for animals and raising $1,000’s.
Lori is a professional graphic designer and creates the artwork to support events, adoption activities and special activities and fosters dogs for CPA.
Rick Barron – Webmaster
Rick was pressed into service as CPA’s webmaster by Anita because he’s not afraid to break something that’s working on the website while trying to add something new.
He manages CPA’s volunteer database, distributes the CPA Newsletter and works events while also serving as the President of Fix Clermont (the organization working with the Commissioners Office to affect change politically).
Rick has the gift of gab, meaning he does LOTS of writing for CPA (grants and both Request for Proposal Responses for the Commissioners office) and LOTS of networking on CPA’s behalf. He’s active in TV Toastmasters so you may have even seen him giving speeches on public access television.
Sue Strunk – Dog Committee Co-Chair
Sue initially reached out to Clermont Pets Alive! for help with a cat and was so impressed with the treatment that both the cat and she received that she enrolled as a volunteer.
She initially helped by answering the CPA phone, transporting animals and then as the co-chair for the CPA Dog Committee. When a spot became available on the Pet Alliance Board of Directors (CPA’s non-profit organization), she jumped at the chance to serve.
Sue has assisted with the coordination of the rescue for virtually every dog CPA received as the Board of County Commissioners K-9 Designee, building relationships with rescues, vets and limited admission shelters across North America to place them. She was licensed as a Veterinary Technician and worked for 10 years in the field so she assists with the coordination of medical care for animals in the CPA adoption program.
Susan Thomas – Cat Committee Co-Chair
I got involved with Clermont Pets Alive! during May 2013, when looking for help with a stray cat problem.
Clermont Pets Alive! responded to my phone call, and was right there to lend a helping hand. I was so impressed with the loving kindness and willingness to help the pets that I asked what I could do in return.
There were dozens of opportunities and much to learn. I dug my feet in and am still going strong today…I’ve been involved with TNR, socializing, adoption events, fostering, fund raising, etc., the list goes on.
Yes it involves time and work. Yet it’s so fulfilling to help pets in need! This is a great cause and awesome group of individuals to work with!!
“When I look into the eyes of an animal in need, I just can’t turn my back. Being part of Clermont Pets Alive! has given me an opportunity to get involved with an organization the really does make the difference.”
Toni Roach – Outreach Coordinator and Dog Committee Volunteer
Toni is a foster “graduate.” Henrietta (pictured with Toni) is just one example of how Clermont Pets Alive! (CPA) has helped so many animals in need. When CPA received the call that a little Chihuahua mix at the Clermont County Humane Society was very ill and would be euthanized at 4 p.m. unless someone came to get her, CPA sent Toni to transport her to the vet. It was determined that the dog (Toni named Henrietta) was simply in need of dental care. She wasn’t eating or drinking because her teeth were so infected. Toni fostered Henrietta while she regained her strength and gained weight. She then adopted her and Henrietta is now a part of the Roach pack and enjoying her life again.
Toni has been drawn to animals all her life. She was the youngest child of four and the only one her parents allowed to have an animal. Her first animal was her beloved “Creampuff” an orange kitty. Over the years, she has had a variety of cats, dogs and other animals, including a duck that quaked every morning and woke up the neighbors.
Since joining CPA as a volunteer, Toni has transported animals from the county shelter, stayed with them while at the vet’s office, socialized and walked dogs, helped with adoption events and even transported to foster or forever homes. She has found working with CPA to help the animals in Clermont County to be very rewarding!
When you place a phone call to CPA you’ll have the opportunity to hear Toni’s passion for animals. Toni comes to CPA from the League for Animal Welfare, serving on the Board of Directors for 10 years, the Board Secretary for 3 years, the Volunteer Chair for 6 years, the Dog Committee Co-Chair for 8 years, the Spay/Neuter Committee for 3 years and as the Animal Care Committee Chair for 1 year.
